Maxim Shkadov elected vice-president of IDMA for the second time

Russia`s Maxim Shkadov was elected Vice President of the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) on Wednesday during a closed session at the 33rd World Diamond Congress held in Shanghai. Maksim Shkadov is currently serving as Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Smolensk Kristall Production Corporation (Russia). He is appointed to this post for the second term.


The International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) was founded and convened for the first time in 1946, in Antwerp. IDMA represents all major diamond manufacturing centres around the world. It is committed to fostering and promoting the highest ideals of honesty and best practices throughout the diamond industry worldwide. 
IDMA also works to encourage social responsibility and decent working conditions for those employed in the diamond industry. 
IDMA convenes bi-annually, at the same time as the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB). The Congress includes a session of the general assemblies of both organizations, where joint resolutions are passed on current issues of concern. 
The Association has played an active role in establishing the Kimberely Process Scheme and is a co-founder of the World Diamond Council. 
IDMA has 12 member associations at present, and its current President is Mr. Moti Ganz of Israel, who is also President of the Israel Diamond Manufacturers Association and Chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute Group.

Smolensk Kristall is the major Russian polished diamonds manufacturer set up in 1963. Since 1998 Kristall is the first and until now the only Russian DTC Sightholder. 
The company has created a broad international trade network, gaining a wide clientele in major international diamond centers. Its representation offices are located in Belgium, Hong Kong, Israel, the USA and the UAE. 
Overall 2007 sales of Kristall Smolensk on the international and domestic markets increased 13% to $404, 4 million compared to $358, 2 million in 2006.

The number of employees is about 3000. 
Smolensk Kristall is a state-owned corporation.

Maxim Shkadov began his work in the diamond industry at Kristalldiam polishing company, first as a cutter apprentice, then cutter, diamond grader, and processing engineer. 
In 1994, he was appointed director of Smolensk-Taché cutting and polishing joint venture company. 
In 1999-2004 he served as Director for foreign economic relations of Smolensk Kristall, the major Russian polished diamonds manufacturer, supervising the company’s sales and marketing. 
In December, 2004 the company Board appointed Mr. Shkadov Director General and CEO of  Kristall Production corporation. 
President of Smolensk Diamond Association, the organization consolidating the companies of Smolensk region involved in the diamond industry. 
In the beginning of 2005 he was elected President of the Russian Diamond Manufacturers Association. 
Graduate of Moscow Technical University (Physics and Technology of Diamond Processing), PhD (Economy). 
In 2006 and 2008 was twice elected Vice President of the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA).
