The Russian Government Favoured the Increase in Rough Supply to Smolensk Kristall

On the 30th of August, 2007 at the Russian Government session Head of Smolensk region Victor Maslov initiated an increase in rough supply to the major Russian polished diamonds manufacturer, Smolensk-based Kristall Production Corporation. The initiative was supported completely.

Victor Maslov informed the Ministry that Smolensk Kristall will boost its turnover to $1 bil. if rough supply increases.

Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov supported the initiative. Recollecting his visit to Smolensk Kristall in July 2007 Sergei Ivanov emphasized that the company is unique and very promising. According to First Deputy Prime Minister the exceptionally high quality and worldwide reputation of Smolensk diamonds as well as Kristall’s multiple areas of activity give grounds to believe that the company can easily increase its turnover to $1.2 – 1.4 bil.

Natural Resources Minister Yury Trutnev suggested changing the wording in the draft of the government decree from “examine the issue” to “take appropriate measures”. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov instantly seconded the proposal.
