Smolensk region governor Viktor Maslov has asked the Russian government to consider increasing the maximum amount of diamonds that Russian companies may purchase from the government's diamond repository, Gokhran.

Prime-Tass, MOSCOW: Smolensk region governor Viktor Maslov has asked the Russian government to consider increasing the maximum amount of diamonds that Russian companies may purchase from the government's diamond repository, Gokhran.

The move would allow Russia’s largest diamond cutter Kristall to increase its annual sales to RUB25 billion (about $974,350) from RUB13 billion ($506,664) without any additional investments as long as the company has an uninterrupted supply of uncut diamonds, Maslov said.

Founded in 1963 and based in the city of Smolensk, Kristall has eight subsidiaries in the Smolensk Region and trade offices in New York, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Antwerp, and Hong Kong. Kristall is 100 percent state-owned.

Gokhran is the Russian Finance Ministry's State Precious Metals and Gems Depository.
