During this operation, the diamond is being cut into parts – two or more – with the aim of a most rational utilization of the rough material in the manufacturing process. Sawing may be performed in the traditional mechanical manner, as well as by means of laser technological complexes.
When using laser sawing equipment, a rough diamond of any form and quality is quickly and accurately divided into parts, the division line being especially precise.
It is possible to divide a stone into parts by cleaving – the most ancient method of diamond processing – that was born several centuries ago, alongside with the art of diamond polishing. Today, this operation if rarely used in the manufacturing process.
