The pear-shaped fancy diamond cut is a polished diamond with an outline of a teardrop or a water droplet, combining features of both the classical round brilliant, and the Marquise fancy cut. This diamond cut originates from the 16th century when diamond cuts named Rosa and Briolette were in great fashion. The latter – the Briolette cut – was the predecessor of the contemporary Pear Shape.

For Pear-Shape diamonds, different proportions of length and width are admissible. Thus, in one case the diamond may be shorter and wider, in another – prolonged with more delicate fashion. The most proportionate and harmonious elongation coefficient – i.e. correlation of the basic length and width of a diamond – lies in the range of 1.5-1.75.

Pear-Shape diamond must demonstrate ideal symmetry and distinct observance of all parameters, including the geometrical facet pattern. This is the guarantee of an equable optical reflection, especially in the tapered part of the stone, and perfectly uncovers the splendor of this gem in the best way.

Pear-Shape diamonds are very popular in contemporary jewellery art. Owing to their unique degree of symmetry, they are often used in pendants and earrings as well as in classical rings – as a central element. In this case a ring with a large solitaire drop-shaped diamond visually adds artistic gracefulness and elegance to a lady’s hand.
